Entertainment fraud hurts its victims more than other types of fraud because it turns crowds against them. It was probably Nickelback fans who saw me walking towards them, minding my own business, about three years ago now, when a sidewalk cyclist almost ran me over from behind and commented to them as he passed that he would have hit me if he saw me from the front. These young Nickelback fans thought that was funny and laughed out loud. I couldn't resist showing them how their laughter sounded to my ears. And ever since that date, I swear that one of them still thinks I wronged him for mocking his hate.
I have bands like Nickelback and the Crystalids, as well as shows like Saturday Night Live and Family Guy, to thank for these kinds of experiences, which probably number in the thousands since they first stole my work.
